VietNamNet Bridge – Teachers complain that the democracy and the new education methods all have corrupted students nowadays. The students who insult teachers could only be the products of the modern times.

On Facebook, a Hanoi’s female student wrote: "I am sorry, Dad. Because of me, you had to spend a whole morning to come to see a crazy woman. I know you don’t want to meet her, because I myself want to drop out when seeing her face. It’s because I cannot do well. The venerable teacher, helped me understand what "monster” means.”

The entry of the female student has got a lot of comments from friends. After reading the questions and the answers, one may guess that the parents of the female student were asked to come to see the teacher who wanted to be informed about the mistakes made by the student. The student kept the mobile phone ringing during the lessons and answered the teacher back.

The female student related that when she asked her father to come to see the teacher, the father told her to say to the teacher that he would only come when he has free time.

The entry of the student in Hanoi and the behavior of her parent have raised questions. It’s enigmatic why the parent was so indifferent to the daughter’s problem. Especially, the feelings of the female students received the sympathy from her friends.

It seems that the female student now has a lot of problems at the same time. "There have been so many troubles recently, which have inhibited me. There would be so many exams for 12th graders which can be described as the fetid winds blown on every face,” she wrote.

The comments of the female students appeared on Facebook just several days after another Hanoi’s student reportedly insulted her teacher on Facebook. Thus, making the discussion about the morality of Vietnamese students in the modern times become hotter than ever.

A teacher of a general school in Hanoi complained that she regularly has to read the students’ essays which use slang and bag language, warning that the schoolboy’s language has been distorting the traditional Vietnamese language.

Thanh Tam, a teacher from Tan Lap High School in Hanoi, said she sometimes felt tired of reading dull essays with terrible mistakes. She cannot understand why the students could go on to the next grades every year, if they even cannot write sentences with no grammar mistake and style.

"I do not know where the 9x (the students, born in 1990s) learned the terrible styles of writing from. They nowadays tend to use disguised letters and the words that they call the "language of the digital era.”

"I sometimes cannot interpret the words of my students. They regularly abbreviate, use slang words and write without any comma or dot in sentences,” Tam said.

Hoang Minh Luong a lecturer of the Journalism and Propaganda Academy, has noted that students nowadays abuse jargons, thus creating odd writing styles, breaking grammar rules. "I am afraid that the traditional language of the nation may lose its beauty one day,” Luong said.

More seriously, students nowadays fight each other and kill classmates right after the school lessons.

Two female students of the Doi Ngo High School in Bac Giang province were reportedly stabbed by another female student. One of the two stabled students died on the site, while the other was hospitalized in a serious status.

VietNamNet Bridge – "Do not use bad language, do not use Facebook to speak ill of anyone, just "like” after carefully reading the content, while the status must be written carefully,” these are the regulations just set up by the Luong The Vinh High School, a "star” school in Hanoi.

"The taboos when using Facebook” on the website of Luong The Vinh School

The "taboos for students when using Facebook” appeared on the official website of Luong The Vinh School on January 15, which petrified a lot of students.

The regulations clearly stipulate that students must not use a foul language in school, or talk rubbish, even if they use abbreviations, for example, dm, vcl, vl and bts. Students must use the poorly Vietnamese language, must not use Facebook to speak ill of anybody.

Students should only "like” after carefully reading the contents, and if students "like” the entries with bad content, they would have to take responsibility for this. Students need to express their viewpoints and fight against the entries or information with bad contents. Especially, they need to express their opinions in a clear way in order to avoid misunderstanding.

The board of management of the school has also called on its students to be "smart” when using Facebook. There are always two sides of a coin. Facebook is a social network, where people can share their joys and sorrows. However, how to share feelings would still depend on the knowledge and behaviors of everyone.

Therefore, Facebook users always need to think twice to show their knowledge.

Facebook is also the place which can show the culture of every individual, therefore, one should consider carefully before clicking "like” on a comment, or writing status.

The regulations may surprise people who cannot understand why the school’s board of management has been interested so much on the students’ use of Facebook.

However, Luong The Vinh High School has every reason to set up the regulations. A couple of weeks ago, local newspapers all reported a case of a female student, who was expelled from school because she insulted teachers on Facebook.

The topic of the discussion was that if the student has the right to speak ill of others or comment about them on Facebook, a social network, where people can share their personal feelings.

At first, the student was forcedto stay off from school, because she was believed to make a serious mistake. However, later, she has returned to school under the guarantee of competent agencies and organizations.

It’s clear that Facebook and social networks have become a part of students’ lives and they now play a very important role in education. Meanwhile, the things done by students in non-school hours have not been taken care by schools so far.

As soon as the regulations were published on the school’s website, another debate has been raised that if the school should educate its students with such rigid prohibitions.

A student with nickname Mee Bunhin said that the teachers should spend time talking with students and give advice about what students should do, instead of providing a list of the things students must not do.

Another student with nickname Meo Om Chuoi believes that it’s necessary to amend the new regulations, commenting that the regulations are just like a decision to prohibit students to use Facebook.

Luong The Vinh’s Headmaster Van Nhu Cuong, a well known educator, said the school expelled two students who conducted the same behavior like the student in Quang Nam province. The two students then faced the strong protests from their classmates and teachers.
