Topic: Most education systems rely on examinations to encourage children to study, but as a result, children suffer from too much stress and they never learn to be creative. Therefore, examinations should be abolished. To what extent do you agree or disagree? In our modern times, organizing examinations has become a way of assessment widely used in most educational systems. Some people think that it is a great way to encourage children to study. Others, however, are of the opinion that it can make children always feel under excessive pressure and it doesn't offer them a chance to be creative. Accordingly, it is thought that examinations should be abolished. Personally, I think whether or not national examinations should be maintained is in itself a complicated issue and it should be taken into consideration carefully.
To begin with, it is obvious that our testing system is now really a burden to students and even may cause several drawbacks which can have an adverse influence on their health in the long term. For instance, The major drawback of examinations is that big exams such as National High school Graduation Exam, University Entrance Exam , etc may drive students to the verge of exhaust and feel under excessive stress because they have to make great efforts to win a place at university. Moreover, in order to avoid getting bad results, some students resort to cheating during their examinations. This can affect their traits of character badly, since they may believe that there is nothing wrong in telling lies or deceiving other people. However, it is undeniable (Nobody can argue that /There is no doubt that ) examinations can bring many great benefits to students. First, they are a very useful tool to evaluate students' abilities. Thanks to monthly tests and final examinations, teachers can know clearly about their students' capacity, so they can assist gifted students to develop their strengths more efficiently, and help mediocre students to improve their weaknesses. As a consequence, students can realize their own good and bad points, then they may know how to perfect themselves in the future. Second, students are likely to become more mature after taking some demanding examinations. Specifically, they have to work hard in order to get good results and surmount difficulties in their study. Therefore, they may learn to make decisions on their own and to overcome intricate problems in their future lives. In conclusion, although there is no disputing the fact that examinations may have their own demerits . they contributed greatly to the success of students's studies at school. Therefore, I still contend that their advantages clearly outweigh its disadvantages, and that people should improve the quality of examinations instead of doing away with them. | |
