Spring Festival 2009 has come to an end and has made me think a lot about university life. As an English-majored student, I am always interested in this very special event held by the Department of Foreign
Languages. For this reason, I feel very excited and eager every time when Spring Festival comes. For me, this is a great opportunity for English-majored students not only to relax but also to show their abilities in speaking English and expressing emotions in English. Therefore, this event could partly be considered a "reservation” for students majoring in English to "brighten” themselves.

Before this interesting occasion, students of English classes had had hard but enjoyable time giving the performances of their own works. I
am very keen on acting so I’d written a short skit named "Stop on time” telling about students’ bad habit of gambling. As we - my teachers,
classmates and I- rehearsed the skit, I’ve learned a lot of interesting lessons. I’ve realized that "two heads are better than one”. Unification is very important to our success. I myself couldn’t make the skit successful. Thus, as the unprofessional actors and actresses gathered, more ideas have been added to the skit so that it became funny and meaningful. No words could describe my happiness, at the end of the festival, our skit was announced to get the top prize among the four ones performed. Our efforts have worthily been compensated now. Right after I have appeared on the stage in the role of a rich farmer on his motorbike-Altila Chachacha, the audience delightedly screamed and warmly gave me big claps. Thanks to this, I seemed to be given more energy and motivation to act. Once again, I have learned that working under disciplined principles will lead to success. I also took part in the impressive fashion shows in which we, the unprofessional student-models, had spent very much time rehearsing. Although this was a hard job and required much attempt, I felt very delighted as I had a chance to bring joys to people. When we appeared in very creatively impressive clothing, the audience seemed quite excited. That made us more motivated to perform. Participating in Spring Festivals regularly has helped me grow more active and mature. In the past, I used to be very shy and passive. Now, I am not afraid of being in front of the public anymore. Instead, I have become more confident. My English speaking skills have been much improved days by days as I have many opportunities to meet and talk to foreigners. That’s another important thing I’ve learned. In order to be better at speaking a second language, one needs to use it to communicate with native speakers as much as possible. In the future, I’ll be a teacher of English. Besides other must-to-master skills, speaking is essential for me to transfer my knowledge to my students. Also, the desires and willingness to devote my talents to the society will play a crucial part to my success. In short, the most important thing I’ve learned from the Spring Festival 2009 is that we should make full use of our current talent in an active environment. "Living to devote” is my message to everyone.
