More citizens have donated to the "Let’s Build Truong Sa” campaign in the past days, raising the fund to a total of VND2.9 billion (US$141,500) by the end of Monday.

On Monday morning, Saigon Jewelry Company (SJC) donated a sum of VND200 million ($9,750) to the fund which was launched by Tuoi Tre newspaper and has received wide applause from readers in the last three weeks.It was the sum donated by SJC staffs, said the firm’s Youth Union secretary Phan Thanh Phat.Last week, SJC had drawn VND1 billion ($48,800) from its welfare fund to donate to the Truong Sa fund."Contribution to Truong Sa archipelago has become duty of each
citizen and member of the Vietnam’s Communist Youth Union,” Phat added.
"It manifests our patriotism and a way to share difficulties with remote
soldiers.”Hong Anh, 23, told Tuoi Tre that her donation is meant to encourage soldiers stationed in Truong Sa.A barber in Ho Chi Minh City’s district 12, Nguyen Tien Dong, came to Tuoi Tre newsroom yesterday to donate VND400,000 ($19.5)."The sum is the savings of me and two other colleagues in my barber’s shop,” he said.They are some of many donators coming to Tuoi Tre in the past days. Further donations to the fund are now underway.
