TOPIC: Some people believe that children's leisure activities must be educational, otherwise they are a complete waste of time. Do you agree or disagree? Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your experience.  In our modern times, children can have a chance to take part in a variety of leisure activities, including sports, art, music or online games. Some think that these activities should be educational because they are believed to do good on children,or else they may become a complete waste of time. Personally, I strongly agree with this point of view, and the reasons are given below. First of all, educational leisure activities may help children improve themselves and get more knowledge apart from what is taught at school. For example, reading or doing crosswords may provide children with a lot of interesting and useful information. In addition, children are also able to practise their language skills via playing some video games ,which is very beneficial for children as it may help them develop their abilty to use their target language and creativity as well. Second, children may take up some good habits and improve their strengths if they take part in educational leisure activities. By way of illustration, playing sports regularly may bring them a healthy body in order to study better. This is a very esssential habit not only at present but in their entire lives. Besides, children may have a great opportunity to develop their strengths in certain areas like art or music if they have an aptitude for it. Accordingly, they would be able to follow their dreams and become a great artist or musician in the future. Finally, It is reported that a lot of children are addicted to online games nowadays. They spend long hours on computers, but they are not aware that online games may have a very deleterious effect on their health as well as their traits of character. More seriously, children may become more and more indolent and neglect their study if they abuse them. Therefore, it is completely right to say that leisure activities will simply be a waste of time if they are not educational. In conclusion, I contend that educational leisure activities like sports and reading can bring a lot of benefits to children and play a crucial part in their development, whereas some others may be very detrimental, especially online games. Hence, parents should always help their children to choose the most suitable leisure activities and keep away from negative trends, so that their children can not only enjoy themselves but also develop their strengths and intelligence properly. | |
